2020 SCOA National Specialty Hunting Events

5:00 pm EST on Wednesday, May 13, 2020

SATURDAY, MAY 16, 2020

ALL DAY: AKC Hunt Tests at the Mingo Sportsman’s Club Field Trial Grounds (1400 Township Road 189 #1, Bloomingdale OH 43910).  We will have a double test with Junior Hunter, Senior Hunter, Master Hunter and Water Tests in both the morning and afternoon.  The number of dogs will be limited due to the time constraints of the double event so plan to get your entries in ahead of the official closing date (May 13, 2020).  Premiums will be posted at:

Please note there will be primitive camping permitted onsite at Mingo from Friday night through Tuesday morning; a reservation form with details will be posted along with the premiums.

EVENING: After the tests are over, we will have a BYO picnic supper at the Field Trial Grounds pavilion including an Introduction to NAVHDA Testing.  We especially encourage those who have limited experience with NAVHDA to come and have a chance to hear from several judges about the system of testing and why it is important for our breed to participate.  Old hands are welcome as well to share their experience and encouragement.  Those who are interested can observe the test the following day to learn more.  This is a no-fee event, but we ask that people sign up on the SCOA registration page so that we can get NAVHDA literature to share with participants.

SUNDAY, MAY 17, 2020

ALL DAY: NAVHDA Tests at the Mingo Sportsman’s Club Field Trial Grounds (1400 Township Road 189 #1, Bloomingdale OH 43910).  Thanks to the Buckeye Chapter for sponsoring our test which will offer Natural Ability, Utility Prep, and Utility Testing.  We are incredibly fortunate this year to be using the same grounds as NAVHDA’s premier event, the Invitational Test.  Please note that NAVHDA test entries are extremely limited due to the amount of time required for the judges to evaluate each dog in various venues.  Ten is the absolute maximum number (assuming all are puppies).  As soon as the test is posted up on the NAVHDA International website it is open to anyone who applies, and tests generally fill several months in advance so if you plan to enter get your paperwork in as early as possible.  Your dog must be registered with NAVHDA to participate.  A test flyer with details and an entry form will be posted at:

Intro to Reward-Based Positive Gun Dog Training - Registration form

About Inga From, Founder of Positive Gun Dogs Minnesota (PGDM)

In 2006, Inga attended a Positive Gun Dog seminar offered by Jim Barry, author of “Positive Gun Dogs: Clicker Training for Sporting Breeds,” and one of the first to offer positive, reward-based training seminars for gun dogs here in the U.S.  After attending Barryʼs seminar, Inga decided to offer this resource in her home state of Minnesota. In 2008, PGDM was born and ever since has been a pioneer in positive, reward-based training methods in the field dog sports world. Upon retiring, Jim Barry asked Inga and PGDM to continue his work of spearheading this training and now Inga and PGDM currently offer seminars throughout the U.S. in hopes of spreading the word on how to apply positive reward-based training for gun dogs, and field sports for sporting breeds, family dogs and antler shed hunting dogs. With a background in law enforcement and a former game warden in Texas, Inga hunts waterfowl and upland birds with her Lab and Springer Spaniel. Both dogs have been working for years in the field without the use of an electronic collar. Inga is a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants), a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers), and a professional member and current Board of Directors of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT). Inga is also a UKC judge for Elite Shed Dogs.  She is president of Shed Dogs of Minnesota.
